How To Measure Custom Panel Blinds Guide

At Blinds Downunder we have put together a written guide on how to measure different custom  Panel Blind configurations. We recommend  Panel Blinds can be  installed as Face Fit or Ceiling/Top Mount. For fabric selections, head to our samples page and use our  Panel Blind Fabrics Page to view fabric range.

Measuring Instructions

Panel Blinds widths start from 500mm -5500mm

Drops start from 400mm - 3000mm

Note: If your ceiling is not level or floors are not level, we recommend to choose a Face Fit Panel Blinds.

Face Fit Panel Blinds can generally provided better fixings than ceilings. Refer to our installation guide for further details.

Fascia or pelmets are also available to cover the top of the Panel Glide system and can be enhanced with either a Linea Valance or a Sunboss Fascia.

Items you will need

1)Steel Tape measure (All measurements to be documented in millimetres)

2)Print Measurement form or populate Measurement form online

3)Pen and Paper

 Important notes;

1) Always document the room your Panel Blinds will be installed. You may wish to sketch a plan of Panel Blind locations as reference. Hang onto both your Measurement form/sketch and file for future reference.

2) Always measure every window, wall or ceiling individually, check measurements in a minimum of three different locations for the drop. Windows and walls can sometimes be out of square. Refer to measurement image and specific measurement document.

Special Note; Depending on your desired look, Panel Blinds can be ordered to go past architraves. If you would like this option can you enter the outside of architrave to inside of architrave measurement, the individual panel width is shown under the Panel Track overall width on our selection page. If you measure from inside of architrave or recess the actual panel width documented on selection , this will show approximately where the finished panel will sit on your window or door when panel blind is in open position .Make sure you add the panel width to the original overall (outside of architrave to inside of architrave measurement). Each situation is different, so it is important you work out what is best for your application.By ordering Panel Blinds wider or higher than your architraves, you can limit the light entering your room and can provide a great option for light control.

With Face Fit measurement hard to cornice line or ceiling, you may wish to deduct an additional 10mm, to allow for future adjustment. It is important to input your measurements for your drop, as the exact size you require your finished height from finished top height to floor. Our configurator will makes a deduction of 15mm to the drop

With Recess Fit (Top Fix),it is important to input your measurements for your drop, as the exact size you require your finished height from finished top height to floor. Our configurator will make a deduction of 15mm to the drop. In some instances your floor or ceiling maybe out of level. It is important to input the smallest drop measurement.

How to measure Panel Blinds

3)Always measure the width measurement and then the drop measurement in that order. Make sure you write measurements to the exact millimetre.

4) Always document the side you wish your Panel Blind to stack (close to). Document this at time of measurement.

5) Always look for any obstructions ie; door/window hardware, which may interfere with your Panel Tracks functionality.

6) Never take measurement directly from your house plans or window schedules as this will most likely not be accurate.

7) Always Triple check your measurements and Panel Blind details you have documented.

8)Your width measurement is variable based on your desired choice of finish. For wall to wall we recommend deducting 20mm of your measurement, to allow the track to easily fit in your desired space. For architrave to architrave of a window or door, we recommend adding to your width to avoid obstructing your window or door. It is important to input your measurements for your drop the exact size you require your finished height from finished floor. Our configurator will make the appropriate deduction of 15mm. If you require more than 15mm deduction take this off your actual drop measurement or plus on if you would like less gap.

10) If you are measuring with someone else, make sure everyone is reading the tape measure the same way, before you start measuring the entire house lot of curtains. Make sure to read all measurements out aloud and confirm measurements by repeating your assistant’s measurement, especially before writing the finalised measurements on your measurement form.

11) Once you have completed the Measurement Form, transfer these details to  Panel Blind Selection page. Triple check the information you are entering relates to your Measurement Form, as you go. Always check your information is correct prior to proceeding with purchase.
