How To Measure Custom Fit Pelmet Guides
At Blinds Downunder we have put together written guides on how to measure different types of pelmets, based on your pelmet selection. As most of our aluminium pelmets are integrated with our roller blinds. You can apply the same width measurement as a roller blind for these systems
- Sunboss 75mm Fascia
-Sunboss 100mm Fascia
-Sunboss 160mm Fascia.
Our roller blind configurators offer to add the
-Single 75mm Sunboss Fascia on our Quick Order Roller Blind Selection Page
-Sunboss 75mm and 100mm Fascia on our Single Roller Blind Selection Page,
Sunboss 160mm Fascia on our Double Roller Blind Selection Page
Selections will be found on bottom of these pages, once blind selections have been chosen.
You can also head straight to our Pelmet Selection Page to order new Pelmets or Retrofit Pelmets.
Retro fit Sunboss fascia's with non Sunboss fittings. For recess fit you will require approximately 18mm or greater clearance, or check gap between pin end. This is to allow for Sunboss brackets and covers and your exisiting blind fittings. You might be required to drill through steel brackets. You should add minimum 18mm on for face face fit, you can add 45mm extra to avoid drilling steel brackets, you may require toggle bolts for fixing this option. The square 75mm and 100mm square Sunboss Fascia, can have L brackets that can be drilled straight to the top of recess (these would be a special order). You will be required to drill holes and screw in Aluminium to achieve this, no gap would be required for this method. Each retro fit will be different, please contact us if you require further guidance.
Bonded Face Fit Pelmets
For Bonded Face Fit Pelmets, we recommend to allow 6mm extra to the width to clear architrave (Provide the inner box measurement IBM). Make sure the face of the pelmet covers what you are looking to cover. The top of bonded pelmet is 16mm thick.
For the projection (Provide the inner box measurement IBM) , make sure you allow for the depth of the architrave (if you would like pelmet to return back to the wall), the item you wish to cover and include function clearance.
Specify how many side returns you would like.
Note:The face thickness adds an additional 10mm projection to front of bonded pelmet, ensure you have adequate room to fit.
Bonded Recess Fit Pelmets
For Bonded Recess Fit Pelmets, we recommend you deduct 4mm from the width to allow an easier fit (Provide the outer box measurement OBM for the width only).

Measuring Instructions
Items you will need
1)Steel Tape measure (All measurements to be documented in millimetres)
2)Print Measurement form or populate Measurement form online
3)Pen and Paper
Important notes;
1) Always document the room your pelmet will be installed. You may wish to sketch a plan of blind locations as reference. Hang onto both your Measurement form/sketch and file for future reference.
2)Always measure every window individually, check measurements in a minimum of three different locations. Windows can sometimes be out of square. The top width measurement is what matters the most.Refer to measurement video and specific measurement documents: Face Fit, Face Fit No Architraves.
3)Always measure the width measurement and then the drop measurement in that order. Make sure you write measurements to the exact millimetre.
5) Still look for any obstructions ie; door/window hardware, which may interfere with your Pelmet/blind’s functionality.
6) Never take measurement directly from your house plans or window schedules as this will most likely not be accurate.
7) Always Triple check your measurements and blind details you have documented.
8) It is important to input your measurements to the exact size. It is always recommended if you are finding it difficult to differentiate between one millimetre, you write down the greater measurement. If you are measuring with someone else, make sure everyone is reading the tape measure the same way, before you start measuring the entire house lot of Pelmets/blinds. Make sure to read all measurements out aloud and confirm measurements by repeating your assistant’s measurement, especially before writing the finalised measurements on your measurement form.
10) Once you have completed the Measurement form, transfer these details to our product selections Pelmet or Single Roller, Double Roller, at the top of the page on left. Triple check the information you are entering relates to your Measurement form, as you go. Always check your information is correct prior to proceeding with purchase that is in your cart.
